Dr. C. Laird Birmingham (I have quoted his work extensively associated with zinc supplementation as well as anorexia mortality rates) has a call out for both patients and healthy controls.
The research trial is in Vancouver, Canada (out at Dr. Birmingham's office next to the UBC hospital) and unfortunately cannot be done remotely and so this will apply to only those of you who are in YVR or to those who could reasonably travel here for the trial.
The trial consists of having an EEG performed. That's when they stick that cap on your head and the electroencephalogram reads your brain's responses to various stimuli. It doesn't hurt and will take approximately 30 minutes.
The patients must have (or have had) anorexia and be between the ages of 17 and 40. If you have friends who don't have anorexia then they could join the control group.
Dr. Birmingham has all the details of the trial listed on his home page drbirmingham.com.
No invasive tests and a chance to help research associated with the fear response to food for those with anorexia. Please get the word out to your contacts in Vancouver.
Thank you! Gwyneth.
